Meeting Minutes

1. Call to Order
At 7:04 PM the meeting was called to order. Pamela Rojas has been appointed to the
Commission.
2. Approval of Minutes
Jen made a motion to approve the minutes of the January 2008 meeting. Francisco seconded the
motion, All Present in Favor.
3. Diversity Highlight of the Month
February is Black History month.
4. City Update
Councilmember Grossklaus updated the Commission about happenings in Cottage Grove.
During the last compliance check regarding selling alcohol and tobacco one of the restaurants in
the city failed for the second time. They must either take it to court or pay a $1,000 fine. At the
February 6th Council meeting the City Council discussed updates to the dog ordinance,
specifically how it relates to dangerous and potentially dangerous dogs. The current building in
the Pine Tree Pond Park will be rehabbed. Residency is expected in mid-March at Presbyterian

Homes. March 4 there will be public meeting where the Dept of Health will present health

impact levels for the drinking water. March 5 the City will hold a groundbreaking for the ice
arena expansion project.
5. Yeshiva School Taping Discussion
Christie updated the Commission on this project. It will be a four part series with each part being
included in the monthly show “Spot Light on Cottage Grove”. Each segment will be about 5

minutes. The first filming will be February 15 and the second filming will be some time in
March.
6. Essay Contest
Christie has been actively seeking sponsors for the annual Essay Contest. Werner Electric Supply
Minnesota has graciously donated $200 to be used as prize money. A press release detailing the
contest has been sent to the Star Tribune, Pioneer Press, South Washington County Bulletin, the
school district and the cable commission. Everyone will try to get the word out about the contest
as much as possible.
8. Commission Comments & Requests
Jen updated the Commission on the latest Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee. The main
focus of the meeting was housing. Several issues were discussed such as affordable housing,
foreclosures, rental units, demographics, etc.
The Commission plans to have the Clothesline Project display at this year’s Strawberry Festival.
Rajean requested that the Commission go on a tour of Cottage Grove in the near future.
Joe will try to find a date to hold a joint City Council/Commission meeting in the next few
months.
9. Adjourn
Rajean made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:02 PM. Seconded by Francisco, All Present in
Favor.
