Call to Order At 7:01 PM the meeting was called to order. 2. Approval of Minutes Danisa Farley made a motion to approve the minutes of the January 2007 meeting. Cathy Hanson seconded the motion, All Present in Favor. 3. Facing Race Rajean Moone outlined the proposed work plan for the Facing Race event the Commission would like to conduct. Duties of the plan were split among the Commission. Rajean will coordinate the overall event and the agenda for the day. Cathy Hanson will coordinate the venue and refreshments for the event. Christie Thompson will coordinate raising funds to offset the costs. Jen Peterson will coordinate the participation of the local media. Joe Fischbach will coordinate communicating with city staff and the City Council and maintain the invite list. 4. Essay Contest th Deadline for submissions is March 8. Christie Thompson has received confirmation on prizes from Jimmy John’s in Woodbury, gift certificates from Kohl’s and Blizzard vouchers from Dairy Queen. Rajean Moone will submit an article to the South Washington County Bulletin. 5. Diversity Highlight of the Month February is Black History month. Danisa Farley passed around a flyer with activities Metropolitan State University is coordinating this month. It is also the beginning of Lent. 6. City Update th Fred Luden gave a brief update of the highlights of the February 7 Council meeting. He talked about the proposed Ice Arena expansion, the Roundabout open house and the East Ravine. He 1 also mentioned the Chamber of Commerce will be conducting a luncheon on the topic of diversity. Joe Fischbach will communicate with the Commission when more specifics are known. 7. Neighbors Connecting Neighbors Update Jen and Danisa are still trying to coordinate with Doug to tape their show on domestic violence; th it appears the last segment will be taped February 24. Rajean Moone stated he could do the next show on dementia. 8. Commission Comments & Requests Danisa Farley mentioned she is taking a class on the topic of poverty and Washington County has expressed interest in coordinating a class, Danisa will bring more information to the next meeting. Danisa left the meeting. Rajean Moone mentioned that Jim Shinn has served the Commission for many years and terms limits preclude him from serving another consecutive term. A reception or something similar to honor Jim’s service will take place in the coming months. There are currently 2 openings on the Commissions. Rajean will work with the Senior Center Coordinator to see if there is interest from one of the members. Jen Peterson made a motion to recommend the City Council appoint Dianna Stair to the Commission. Seconded by Christie Thompson, All Present in Favor. 10.
