Meeting Minutes

1. Call to Order
At 7:04 PM the meeting was called to order.
2. Approval of Minutes
Christie Thompson made a motion to approve the minutes of the March 2007 meeting. Jen
Peterson seconded the motion, All Present in Favor.
3. Essay Contest Winner Presentation
The Commission presented D’monte Farley with his prize for being the winner of the local Essay
Contest. His essay has been submitted to the state Essay Contest.
4. Norris Square Presentation
Howard Blin, City Community Development Director, gave a presentation to the Commission on
the Norris Square project. The project is well under way and the result will be more senior
housing units within the City. He also showed a 3-D video of the proposed retail portion of the
project. Mr. Blin also told the Commission that another senior housing project is in the early
stages. Comforts of Home would be the developer of these units.
5. Facing Race
The Commission discussed who could be possible partners for the FacingRace event and where
the funding will come from. The Commissioners will work on both aspects and report back at the
May meeting.
6. Diversity Highlight of the Month
Christie asked if the City was doing anything for Earth Day/Arbor Day. Joe Fischbach indicated
they were and will send out the flyer with details. Rajean noted that many recently celebrated
Jewish and Christian holidays.
7. City Update

Rajean, Joe Fischbach and Ryan Schroeder, City Administrator, met the past week to discuss the
Commission. It was decided that a work plan will help the Commission be more effective. A
draft work plan and Commissioner Role sheet were handed out to the Commission. Joe
Fischbach asked that the Commission review the handouts and be prepared to discuss them at the
May meeting. With the several vacancies on the Commission an ad will be going in the Bulletin
and the CG Reports.
8. Neighbors Connecting Neighbors Update
The segment on domestic violence is now airing. Rajean will do the next segment on
Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Jen Peterson made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:31 PM; Seconded by Christie
Thompson, All Present in Favor.
