Meeting Minutes
Wednesday, June 13, 2007

1. Call to Order
At 7:07 PM the meeting was called to order.
2. Approval of Minutes
Christie Thompson made a motion to approve the minutes of the May 2007 meeting. Jen
Peterson seconded the motion, All Present in Favor.
3. Strawberry Fest
There will not be a table that the Human Rights/Human Services Commission will need to staff
but there will be an opportunity to give out the FacingRace event flyers.
4. FacingRace
There are 28 people signed up to attend thus far. Joe, Rajean and Rowzat, from the St Paul
Foundation, will meet on Friday at River Oaks to discuss the logistics for the event. The letter of
agreement with the Minnesota Women’s Consortium has been signed by both parties.
Advertising of the event will be in the Minnesota Women’s Consortium newsletter, on the cable
access channel and the Bulletin has run it a few times.
5. Diversity Highlight of the Month
Christie Thompson explained why Jim Crow laws were given such a unique name.
6. City Update
Council Liaison Fred Luden gave the Commission a City update. He specifically talked about the
K-9 unit, the amended City Code relating to the Human Rights/Human Services Commission,
Washington County traffic analysis, Norris Marketplace, the Roundabout project,
Comprehensive planning and the East Ravine project.
7. Neighbors Connecting Neighbors Update

Doug will be at the FacingRace event and will film segments. He will then take some of the
material from the program and fuse them together for the next cable access airing.
8. Commission Comments & Requests

The South Washington County Service Center will be host to an open house on June 26. Joe
Fischbach will check to see if a tent can be secured for the Commission for National Night Out.
Someone from the Commission may write an article for the Bulletin relating to hate crimes.
9. Adjourn
Jen Peterson made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:05 PM; Seconded by Christie
Thompson, All Present in Favor.
