Meeting Minutes

1. Call to Order
At 7:05 PM the meeting was called to order.
2. Approval of Minutes
Sue made a motion to approve the minutes of the August 2007 meeting. TJ seconded the
motion, All Present in Favor.
3. Introduction of New Commission Members
Devan King attended his first meeting. He introduced himself and gave a brief background.
4. Presentation by Community Development Director Howard Blin
This presentation was postponed to the October meeting.
5. Commission Work Plan
6. Commission Projects
The Commission discussed what projects they would like to work on in the coming months.
Several were specifically identified including a Human Rights/Human Services Guide, media
outreach, identifying the history of the people of Cottage Grove and a speaker’s forum. The
Commission consensus was to seek funding to assist putting together the Human Rights/Human
Services Guide. The funding would help with graphic design and printing costs. The preliminary
subsections of the guide would be: basic info, disability, seniors, safety, social services, addiction
and counseling, child care and human rights- know your rights.
7. Immigration

Members of the Commission were concerned that there was a lot of misinformation being
reported about immigration and immigrants. This is a huge national issue that is subject to much
debate. The Commission would like to put together a fact sheet regarding immigration.
8. Diversity Highlight of the Month
CenterPoint Energy and other have been discussing utility shut-offs. Members of the community
needing assistance with payment of utility bills should contact CAP. The religious holidays of
Ramadan, Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah are celebrated in September.
9. City Update
Developers of the CottageView site have submitted preliminary plans to the City. The Comforts
of Home and Presbyterian Homes projects continue to progress.
10. Neighbors Connecting Neighbors Update
The show in its current form has been cancelled. The Commission may film up to seven minute
spots to fill in gaps in other programming.
12. Commission Comments & Requests
The Commission would like to know when the next joint meeting with the City Council is.
13. Adjourn
Rajean made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:35 PM; Seconded by Sue, All Present in
Favor.
