Stransky, City Clerk r t .•- • a ' '` :• ' To: From: Date: Subject: Honorable Mayor, City Council and Director of Public Safety Craig Woolery Fire Chief Bob Byerly December 19, 2007 Marathon Petroleum Company Donation to Fire Department BACKGROUND The Cottage Grove Fire Department has a long history of training and working with the Fire Brigade of Marathon Petroleum Company. We provide mutual aid to each other's incidents when necessary. The City of Cottage Grove also has 9 storage tanks off g5tn Street that we would work together with the Marathon Fire Brigade if there was an incident. Marathon Petroleum Company has in years past made donations to the Cottage Grove Fire Department and this money has helped our department in our building of our training ventilation trailer and in the purchase of our Keiser Force training machine. On Wednesday, December 19 at a meeting with Marathon Petroleum Plant Director Ray Brooks, I was presented with a check for $1,000.00 for the Cottage Grove Fire Department. In meeting with the Fire Department Command Staff to gather ideas for the possible use of this donation, Deputy Chief Redenius felt that the addition of a top mounted lightbar on Expedition 3127 would be an important safety addition. This vehicle is used at accident scenes and responds as a primary response vehicle by the Fire Command staff. At an accident scene in the last week, Deputy Beasley stated that 3127 had the least amount of lights for the Public Safety Vehicles there and he was blocking traffic as a safety measure with truck 3127. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends passing a motion to accept the $1,000.00 donation from Marathon Petroleum Company and assist in purchasing and installing a lightbar for vehicle 3127.
