Levitt, P.E., City Engineer Date: February 29, 2008 Re: Workshop: Ice Arena Project Review The Ice Arena bids were received on February 28, 2008. Many of the contract bid divisions received bids that were below or very close to the engineers estimate. It is recommended to proceed with the following bid divisions: 5,6,7,8, and 22. By awarding these bid divisions the schedule is maintained and poses no threat to the uitimate schedule. There are some bid divisions that had bids higher then the engineers estimate; those divisions specificaily have been targeted for value engineering options. Along with those targeted divisions, the project as a whole is being reviewed for further cost savings. At this time we have identified nearly 30 items for consideration for value engineering. At the workshop session we will go over all the value engineering items and associated cost savings. The remaining divisions of the bid package are not being recommended for award until a finai agreed upon value can be reached and presented to Council as a complete package. A couple of the bid divisions, depending on the value engineering items, may need to be re-bid, such as windows. A complete project budget will be presented and the various value engineering options shown in relation to the project budget.
