P4 P CITY OF COTTAGE GROVE MINNESOTA TO: Mayor and Members of the City Council Ryan Schroeder, City Administrator FROM: John M. Burbank, Senior Planner DATE: February 14, 2008 RE: Cedarhurst Gardener's Cottage — City Registration of Historic Site Introduction On February 2oth, a public hearing on the designation of the Cedarhurst Gardener's Cottage as an historic site was continued at the applicanYs request. The applicant has since requested that the application be withdrawn. No further action is necessary. Background The City of Cottage Grove's Advisory Committee on Historic Preservation (ACHP) and the City Historic Preservation Officer (CHPO) nominated the Cedarhurst Gardener's Cottage, 9912 — 70th Street South, to the Ciiy Register of Historic Sites and Landmarks. The registration is a condition of approval of the historic places conditional use permit (HCUP) which would allow for construction of a new house and allow the existing historic home to remain on the three-acre parcel at 9912 — 70th Street South. Under current ordinance criteria, and the resolution of approval for the FiCUP, the new home cannot be constructed without the historic registration. The property owner has concerns about the impact of the designation on insurance premiums, and future real-estate transactions, and did not wish to proceed with the designation at this time. Recommendation 1. Withdraw the public hearing and designation of tne Cedarhurst Gardener's Cottage 9912 — 70th Street South as an historic site.
