Woolery fl" March 27, 2008 K9 OFFICER TASER PURCHASE INTRODUCTION In the 2008 budget, Council authorized the replacement of two (2) outdated (M26) tasers and two (2) broken tasers, which would make a total of fourteen (14) available for patrol use. I am requesting the purchase of an additional taser to be assigned to the K9 officer. The funding source would come from funds donated by the Cottage Grove Crime Board. DISCUSSION Council has already accepted donations from the Cottage Grove Crime Board to be used in support of the K9 program. The K9 officer is required to be readily available (24/7) to respond from home in the case of a callout. The goal of the department is to have fifteen (15) tasers readily available to equip two full crews, to allow for a smooth transition between shift changes, to allow for School Resource Officers, Investigators and CSOs the opportunity to use them in the performance of their duties. Also at any given time, tasers can be down and sent out for repairs. The assignment of a taser to K9 would alleviate shortages of available tasers for patrol uses. Cost — 1- X26 taser 5 814.95 1- 4 year warranty 179.95 Tax 64.56 $1,059.56 RECOMMENDATION If Council concurs, authorize the purchase of an additional taser for $1,059.56 to be assigned to the K9 Officer.
