Staff is asking Council to adopt a new Resolution for 2008 wages that will include a temporary part-time transcriptionist position for the Public Safety Department. The Public Safety Department has been absent two fuli time clerical positions for the past 18 weeks. This has afforded the opportunity to evaluate the impacts on the operations of the department. The City's staffing study conducted in 2007 showed that Public Safety support positions were above the suggested 2010 target; however since losing two full time cierical positions within the department it has experienced a backiog of work. The department's current ability to meet mandated timeliness has been severely stressed and a determination was made to hire a temporary part-time transcriptionist to help with the backlog. The reason why this position is temporary is because once the department has its new databases and computer programs in place this position will no longer be a necessity. Position Pronosed Pav Scale Transcriptionist $10.00 - $14.00/hour Recommendation Repeal Resolution 07-218 and approve the Resolution establishing wages for the temporary part-time transcriptionist position, Council Action Consider approval of the new 2008 part-time wages.
