RE: Code Enforcement Update
Code enforcement complaints have held steady over the first quarter of 2010. Over the first
three months of 2010 the City received 176 property maintenance complaints. Over the same
period in 2009 178 complaints were received. The most common complaints are:
• Storage of trash containers'
Vehicle parking and storage
• Trash accumulation
• Outdoor storage.
Thus far in 2010 the City has been able to achieve improved rates of compliance once a
complaint is received. This reduces the need for reinspections and decreases the number of
administrative and criminal citations. The primary reason for this improvement in compliance
is an emphasis on education of property owners once complaints are received. It is also a
result of efforts in recent years to use the abatement process for problem properties. This has
reduced the need for continual reinspeciton of these properties.
During the summer months code enforcement staff will be augments by planning staff to
monitor commercial properties. Planners will meet with commercial property owners to
encourage proper site maintenance.
