The federal grant funding program covers approximately half of the cost of issuing a new vest ($1,299.00). The State of Minnesota also covers half of the cost. The BVP grant would alleviate the city's share of the expense. Thank you to Management Assistant Niki Getschel who submits and administers the department's grant funding. The deadline for application was May 19, 2010. At this time I am requesting Council's approval to accept the grant funding (if awarded) to be used towards the purchase of police officers' soft body armor in the amount of $12,642.22.
