RE: TIGER II Grant Application
Proposal
Authorization is sought to submit a grant application to the United States Department of
Transportation for funding from the TIGER 11 program for improvements to the TH 61 and
County Road 19 interchange.
Discussion
The federal government is soliciting applications for the second round of funding through the
Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant program. The City
was not successful in seeking $35 million for improvements to the interchange in the first round
of funding in late 2009. The same application is being submitted for the second round (TIGER
II) of funding.
Recommendation
Authorize the City Administrator to submit a TIGER 11 grant application.
WHEREAS, discretionary federal funding is available for long -term surface
transportation infrastructure improvements under the American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act; and
WHEREAS, the City of Cottage Grove has taken the regional lead to complete
the TH 61 /County Road 19 Interchange Improvement Project; and
WHEREAS, the solicitation and successful award of federal National
Infrastructure Investments Under the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development,
and Related Agencies Appropriations Act for 2010 (TIGER II) Grant monies would
ensure completion of the project in a timely and efficient manner; and
WHEREAS, the completion of the project would preserve and create jobs and
promote economic recovery and development that would provide long -term economic
benefits, locally, regionally, and nationally.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the City Council of the City of Cottage
Grove, County of Washington, State of Minnesota, authorizes the application to the
Department of Transportation for a TIGER II Discretionary Grant in the amount of $35
million for the TH 61 /County Road 19 Interchange Improvement Project.
Passed this 7th day of July 2010.
Myron Bailey, Mayor
