ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON HISTORIC PRESERVATION
MARCH 13, 2007
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a regular meeting of the Advisory Committee on Historic
Preservation was duly held at the Cottage Grove City Hall, 7516 – 80th Street South, Cottage
Grove, Minnesota, on the 13th day of March, 2007.
I.CALL TO ORDER
Vice-Chair Japs called the meeting to order at 7:08 p.m.
II. Roll Call

Burbank summarized the application that had been received for the ACHP seat vacated
by LaChapelle.
Burbank identified that the City Clerk was sent out letters to ACHP members whose
terms are expiring, and that Rolloff responded that he would not continue to serve. He
stated further that applications for the vacant seat would be advertised.
III. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
The ACHP reviewed the agenda, and it requested that Item VII-A, the annual meeting
replace Item V, Open Forum, that Item VII-D, Historic Preservationist 2007, be added to
the agenda, and that the rest of the agenda be approved as submitted and modified.
IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Brown moved to approve the January 9, 2007 minutes as submitted. Gross seconded the
motion. Motion carried unanimously.
V.ANNUAL MEETING
Burbank as acting secretary noted that a chair needed to be elected. Ratzlaff nominated
Herb Japs as Chair. On a unanimous vote, Herb Japs was elected as chair of the ACHP
for 2007.
McBride nominated Ratzlaff as Vice Chair. On a unanimous vote, Ratzlaff was elected as
Vice Chair of the ACHP for 2007.

Burbank asked if there were any other annual meeting issues. The ACHP did not note
any other items, and the annual meeting was concluded.
VI.OLD BUSINESS
A. Historic Plaques
Burbank presented some concept plaques. The ACHP had a general discussion on his-
toric logo ideas. Burbank stated that he would continue work on a consistent logo for the
plaques and get some price quotes for presentation at the next meeting.
B. Historic Playing Cards
Burbank gave the ACHP an update on the historic Card program
C. Historic Video Project – Two Grey Clouds
Burbank stated that the ACHP is an official sponsor of a speaker at the Cottage Grove
Strawberry Fest. He informed the ACHP that Duke Addicks, a master story teller who has
a specific story about the two Grey Cloud Mdewakanton women, was contracted to
speak. The ACHP concurred that it would be an interesting contribution to the festival and
a good topic with which to start the video program.
D. Historic Preservationist of the Year 2007
Burbank noted that it was time to start the nomination process for the 2007 Historic
Preservationist of the Year. The ACHP suggested the Furber House, The Otis/Shepards
Woods property, prairie corporate sponsors, and the Goebel/Zelch house. The ACHP
discussed the item and opted to table the item until the May meeting so other nomina-
tions could be contemplated.

IX.COUNCIL LIASON REPORT
Councilmember Luden told the ACHP that the Washington County Parks Master Plan
was shared with them in February, and he talked about wildlife corridors.

Motion to adjourn was made by Brown and seconded by McBride. The motion passed
unanimously and the meeting adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
