ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON HISTORIC PRESERVATION
MAY 8, 2007
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a regular meeting of the Advisory Committee on Historic
Preservation was duly held at the Cottage Grove City Hall, 7516 – 80th Street South, Cottage
Grove, Minnesota, on the 8yh day of May, 2007.
I.CALL TO ORDER
Vice-Chair Japs called the meeting to order at 7:08 p.m.
II. Roll Call

Burbank identified that no applications have been received for the vacancy, and that the
vacant seat would continue to be advertised.
III. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
The ACHP reviewed the agenda, and Burbank requested that Item VII-B, Strawberry
Festival, be added to the agenda. The ACHP concurred, and recommended that the
agenda be approved as submitted and modified. McBride moved, Ratzlaff seconded,
agenda approved unanimously.
IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Ratzlaff moved to approve the March 13, 2007 minutes as submitted. Gross seconded
the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
V.OPEN FORUM
None
VI.OLD BUSINESS
A. Historic Logo
Burbank presented some concept logos to the ACHP. The ACHP identified four logo
options to be refined and presented to the City Council for direction. The logos identified
as “plow,” “wheat,” “Farmstead,” and “ City” were chosen.

B. Historic Plaques
Burbank gave the ACHP an update on the historic plaque program. The ACHP reviewed
the copy and recommended going with the plaques as quoted from Carrot Top Industries
with sizes appropriate to the locations. The Commission also suggested the Gibson site/
Atkinson Corners for a future plaque location.
C. Historic Playing Cards
Burbank gave the ACHP an update on the historic playing cards.
D. Atkinson Cemetery Improvements.
Burbank gave the ACHP an update on the Atkinson Cemetery improvement project.
VII.NEW BUSINESS
A. Historic preservationists of the year
The ACHP discussed the 20th Annual Preservationist of the Year. Gross nominated John
and Kimberly Goebel for the improvements to the “Zelch house” on 70th Street. Ratzlaff
seconded. Motion carried unanimously.
B. Cottage Grove Strawberry Festival
Burbank reminded the group about the presentation by Duke Addicks on the Two Grey
Clouds at the festival, and that hopefully he would be selling the historic playing cards.
VIII.HISTORIC INQUIRIES
The ACHP reviewed the recent historic inquiries included in the packet.
IX.COUNCIL LIASON REPORT
Councilmember Luden told the ACHP that the Washington County Parks Master Plan
had been approved. Ratzlaff discussed the naming of the pond in the park.

XII.ADJOURNMENT
Motion to adjourn was made by McBride and seconded by Ratzlaff. The motion passed
unanimously and the meeting adjourned at 9:03 p.m.
