HomeMy WebLinkAboutHist Pres Minutes 05-19-2009CITY OF COTTAGE GROVE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON HISTORIC PRESERVATION MAY 12, 2009 Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a regular meeting of the Advisory Committee on His- toric Preservation was duly held at the Cottage Grove City Hall, 7516 – 80th Street South, Cottage Grove, Minnesota, on the 12th day of May, 2009. I.CALL TO ORDER Chair Japs called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. II. ROLL CALL : MEMBERS PRESENTBeverly Gross, Herb Japs, Jan Japs, Frances Ratzlaff, Judy Spooner : MEMBERS ABSENT Glen Brown, Lorraine Brown, OTHERS PRESENT:John M. Burbank, Senior Planner Bud Gross III. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Burbank recommended that the topic VII B “ACHP Historic Photo Contest” be moved to the end of new business. The ACHP concurred. Spooner motioned to approve the agenda as modified. Gross seconded the motion and the agenda was approved unanimously. IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Burbank submitted the March 10, 2009 minutes for review. Gross moved to approve the minutes as submitted. Jan Japs seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously. V.OPEN FORUM None. VI.OLD BUSINESS Burbank reported that all the items covered under Old Business were still works in progress, and that they would be presented when new information and outcomes are achieved. Preservationist of the Year Burbank reported nominations were needed for the historic preservationist of the year. The ACHP held a general discussion about potential nominees. Jan Japs no- minated Betty Schultz of the Boondocks in recognition of her continued efforts to- ward operating and preserving the unique social and historic quality of one of the oldest commercial establishments in Cottage Grove. Gross seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously. B. Strawberry Festival Burbank reported that the he would be selling the historic playing cards at the 2009 Strawberry Festival on June 20 and members should contact him if they wanted to participate. No further action. C. 2010 Budget Burbank updated the Committee on the 2010 budget. D. Historic Photo Contest Burbank identified that the Historic Photo contest was successful and that the ACHP needed to judge the submittals after the meeting. Burbank responded that the winners would be announced at the June 17 Council meeting. No further action. VIII.HISTORIC INQUIRIES Burbank presented the ACHP with details on historic inquiries received. No further action. Advisory Committee on Historic Preservation Minutes May 12, 2009 Page 3 of 3 IX.COUNCIL LIASON REPORT None X.COMMISSION COMMENTS Gross gave an update on Glen Brown and announced that she and her husband would be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on June 20. XI.STAFF COMMENTS Burbank noted the Bulletin article on Bev Gross. The ACHP congratulated her. Burbank provided background information regarding the miscellaneous HP publications and information that were included with the packet. XII.ADJOURNMENT Motion to adjourn was made by Spooner, and was seconded by Ratzlaff. Motion passed unanimously and the meeting adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
