In 1971, Boone faced the challenge of a lifetime when he was named head football coach at the newly integrated T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, VA. Racial tensions were running high, exacerbated by the selection of Boone over a popular white coach, who stayed on as his assistant. Remarkably, the two coaches were able to put aside their prejudices, help their small Virginian community put aside intolerance — and coach their team of black and white players to the state championship. Boone will speak at the Human Rights Day Conference on "The Titans — lessons in diversity and inclusion.
