HomeMy WebLinkAbout2004-09-14 EDA MinutesCITY OF COTTAGE GROVE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY MINUTES SEPTEMBER 14,2004 Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a regular meeting of the Economic Development Authority was held at City Hall, 7516 80th Street South, Cottage Grove, Minnesota on the 14th day of September 2004. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 7:30 a.m. by EDA President Wolcott. Rni i CAI i Members Present: Jim Wolcott, EDA President Gerry Weingartner, EDA Secretary /Treasurer Al Boche, EDA Member Dick Pederson, EDA Member Members Absent: Sandy Shiely, EDA Vice President Glen Kleven, EDA Member Mike Wennen, EDA Member Others Present: Ryan Schroeder, EDA Executive Director Jennifer Levitt, City Engineer Monica Percic, Management Analyst Neil Belscamper, Administrative Secretary APPROVAL OF MINUTES EDA Member Boche moved to approve the August 10, 2004 Economic Development Authority Minutes. EDA Member Weingartner seconded. Motion carried unanimously. BUSINESS ITEMS Public Hearing /Land Sale to Gene Stoltz Family Economic Development Authority - Minutes September 14, 2004 Page 2 EDA President Wolcott stated that this item was being added at the beginning of the business items. EDA Executive Director Schroeder said the City had originally acquired homesteaded property and subsequently sold that property to the Stoltz family for the Shoppes at Gateway North project; however, a gap in the property descriptions had resulted in a small portion of the property not being included in the sale, and the public hearing would be for the consideration of deeding that portion back to the Stoltz property. EDA President Wolcott opened the public hearing. No one spoke at the public hearing. EDA President Wolcott closed the public hearing. EDA Member Weingartner move to approve deeding the property to the Stoltz family. EDA Member Pederson seconded. Motion carried unanimously. Project/Development Updates EDA Executive Director Schroeder gave updates on the following projects: Kohl's Grand Opening: Very strong turnout from the community Ruby Tuesday: Building progressing rapidly Baker's Square: Parent corporation is still working on their cost /revenue projections. Cottage Square Redevelopment: Sale of property pending. Shoppes at Gateway North: Construction continues. No spaces leased at present. Oak Park Commons: Building fully leased. Permit process underway for second building. 1501 Partnership: Site work continues with and October 31 deadline Mainstreet Bank: Mid - September completion expected. Grove Plaza: Tenant space fully leased. American Motorsports Bar and Grill slated to open in November. ICC: Awaiting completion of project financing and execution of development agreement. PRI: Pending project financing. Auto Body Shop: Project not proceeding quickly. Status unknown at present. Summer Hill Crossing: Curb and Paving would be complete in another week. Not enough units sold to begin construction. Vangaard Construction: Proposal for spec building in the area of 95 and Ideal. Economic Development Authority - Minutes September 14, 2004 Page 3 East Ravine EDA Executive Director Schroeder said the update information had been included in the packet, and another open house would take place in November. He noted that the concepts are developing nicely. EDA Golf Outing EDA Executive Director Schroeder said the outing had gone well and had even shown a slight profit. EDA President Wolcott commented that gifts given out at the event should be better quality, and suggested a short- sleeve windbreaker he had seen in one of the catalogs for the next event. EDA Member Boche noted that he deals with a lot of supplies through the Cottage Grove Athletic Association, and that many of them are very reasonably priced. Gateway Fencing Update Management Analyst Percic said a timeline had been included with the agenda, as well as a copy of the resolution adopted by the Washington County Housing and Redevelopment Authority supporting installation of decorative fencing and a trailway from an area behind City Hall to Hardwood Court. EDA Executive Director Schroeder said talks are currently underway with abutting property owners. Restaurants EDA Executive Director Schroeder said a listing of area restaurants had been included in the packet and that the Chamber is considering producing a flyer featuring restaurants and entertainment locations. MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS ITEMS Management Analyst Percic said the Holiday Train would be stopping in Cottage Grove again this year, but a date had not been set. She added that the Trade Show would take place again, but a larger venue was being sought. ADJOURN The meeting adjourned at 8:25 a.m.
