On Monday, November 8, 2010, Deputy Chief-EMS Coordinator, Wes Halvorsen and
CPR Coordinator, Kevin Zittel made a presentation to the Cottage Grove Crime
Prevention Board asking them to consider purchasing an AED for the police
department. They presented a quote from Philips of $1,355.90 for one AED.
In an effort to make Cottage Grove a PAD (public access to defibrillation) Community
the goal is to have all police department vehicles, EMS first response vehicles, and
ambulances equipped with an AED or another defibrillation device. The AHA (American
Heart Association) strongly supports this. They also support placing AED's in targeted
public areas such as sports arenas, gated communities, office complexes, doctor's
offices, shopping malls, etc.
Currently, the police department has 2 AED's which are used by the non-medic police
officer's. The purchase • one AED for the police department was approved • the
Crime Board.
I respectfully request the City to accept the donation of $1,355.90 from the Crime Board
• purchase this AED.
