ACTION TAKEN: /APPROVED F DENIED ]OTHER From: Jennifer M. Levitt, P.E., City Engineer Date: November 22, 2010 Re: Approve Preliminary Bridge Design for Ravine Parkway The City Council on October 6, 2010 reviewed the various options for a ravine crossing. The direction from Council was to proceed with a concrete girder bridge design with a decorative valance or skirting. The bridge designer has a draft of the bridge layout completed. The enclosed plan sheets show the typical section, ravine cross section and plan view of the bridge. The bridge has a 93'-6" span and provides for 2 -12' travel lanes with 4' shoulders and a 12' trail on the bridge deck. The bridge utilizes a form lined limestone pattern for the arched fascia curtain and decorative railing. Also included are 8 columns; 4 columns reside at the abutments and 4 are at the end of the decorative wall section. There are 4 end post columns that show a CG logo on them with space for a decorative plaque to be designed by the City and installed at time of completion. The Site Design Subcommittee on November 18 recommended proceeding with railing Type C3. The design was preferred because the arch design mimics the arch on the underside of the bridge and provides a design element that is different than a simple grid iron appearance. Also enclosed is a layout for the proposed trails and sidewalks that serve the new Public Safety/City facility and the Cottage Grove Ravine Regional Park. The City has been working closely with Washington County to ensure that the trail connections and trailhead to the park are coordinated as part of the City's building and infrastructure projects. The current construction estimate for the bridge is $675,000. The decorative arched valance is $50,000 of that construction cost. The total bridge cost, with 30% engineering, administration, and legal and a 10% contingency, is $945,000. This cost is tracking below the value provided in the feasibility report of $1,065,382. / \ « \ ' \w \ \ \ k \ .d / \ :\ ' \ \ » t \\ 1 \ ` \ \ \/ e @ ° :k \ : % 2 «/ «: « : > /.. / a G \ . / \ = 2 . \ w . /.. ..s 2 aw _ % 2 ƒ ` k t < U a U m a HT r ` M dv "1 till I I wc x Q a I e t 1 ' 3Q I I I v z of o F N I s K Z5 1 . a J u l w10 Q i • ,. 1 ltll M I I I I ® ~ Y I I q ® a zlw i Z` wo j b J i I I I IWI CO IX ® W <a ® iltlilil \ mvmm® ° 3 p / ® llltl w I j l I IV I ' a j a j -- -}-- - e O b, U I j {dH(U Z 3 Hd cc ` S ui lu i M ii iul i I i tl 0 I - - -- a•p 13l1S .L98 .
