The City Council is requested to authorize the purchase of a new heating system for the Public
Works truck bays.
Due to the outdated, inefficient gas hanging unit heaters within the Public Works truck bays
and shop areas, we solicited proposals from four heating contractors to remove the existing
hanging units and install a gas radiant tube heating system within three truck storage bays
along with a new furnace to replace the three horizontal furnaces currently used to heat the
sign and street light shop.
Installing a radiant tube system will cost about 15 percent more than merely replacing the
existing units. The new system will, however, result in energy savings of over 60 percent.
111 • M,
Based on the three proposals received, we believe the proposal by Doody Mechanical would
iie the most beneficial heating system for the Public Works truck bays and shops. Doody
