Due to the outdated, inefficient gas hanging unit heaters within the Public Works truck bays and shop areas, we solicited proposals from four heating contractors to remove the existing hanging units and install a gas radiant tube heating system within three truck storage bays along with a new furnace to replace the three horizontal furnaces currently used to heat the sign and street light shop. Installing a radiant tube system will cost about 15 percent more than merely replacing the existing units. The new system will, however, result in energy savings of over 60 percent. 111 • M, Based on the three proposals received, we believe the proposal by Doody Mechanical would iie the most beneficial heating system for the Public Works truck bays and shops. Doody Honorable Mayor, City Council, and Ryan Schroeder Public Works Truck Bay Heating Upgrade December 1, 2010 Page 2 Currently, $32,000 is budgeted for this project and the remainder is proposed to come from the sustainability grant the City received from the State of Minnesota.
