CITY OF COTTAGE GROVE
MINNESOTA
To: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
r
From: Joe Fischbach, Human Resources Coordinator r',
Date: February 11, 2011
Subject: Commission Reappointments
Cottage Grove City Code allows individuals to serve on various commissions for three consecutive two -year
terms and the Planning Commission for two consecutive three -year terms. An initial term of more than 12 months
counts as one term. Term limits do not apply to the Advisory Committee on Historic Preservation. The City Code
also states:
"The council may, by special application, appoint a commissioner for one term in excess of the limit provided in
this subsection where it is determined that such would serve the best interests of the city."
The following commissioners have expressed interest in serving another term.
1. Two -year terms: March 1, 2011 through February 28, 2013:
a. Tanweer Janjua, Francisco Gonzalez and Richard Johnson to the Human Services /Human
Rights Commission
b. Paul Poncin, Douglas Butler, Keith Kleinsasser and William Schumal to the Parks, Recreation &
Natural Resources Commission
c. Brian Hagen, Lori Bellows and Jim Neuenfeldt to the Public Safety, Health & Welfare Commission
f. Patrick McLoughlin to the Environmental Commission.
2. Three -year term: March 1, 2011 through February 28, 2014:
a. Michael Linse, Ryan Rambacher and Jim Rostad to the Planning Commission
Paul Poncin, Keith Kleinsasser and Brian Hagen have served three consecutive terms. The Council liaisons to the
Commissions that they serve on are recommending that they be extended one term beyond the limit, as provided
for in the City Code.
Councilmember Lehrke is not recommending those that have terms expiring on February 28, 2011 on the Public
Works Commission and the Advisory Committee on Historic Preservation be reappointed at this time, pending an
anticipated review process of applicants for the seats.
