Woolery Z ` p v / February 25, 2011 '( 2011 SPRING FLOODS As of February 18, 2011, the National Weather Service (NWS) has predicted significant flooding for the upper Mississippi River basin. The next forecast by the NWS is expected in early March and should provide more accurate information. In the city of Cottage Grove, River Acres and Grey Cloud Island are two areas of concern should flood stages reach above six to seven feet. A neighborhood /community meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, March 8`" at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers. Letters have been sent to 25 residents of River Acres and 15 residents of Grey Cloud Island whom could potentially be affected by the flooding. The intent of the meeting is to inform residents on potential flooding impacts, effect on utilities and public services. Emergency services (police, fire and ems) would continue to affected areas though response times will be impacted. More specifically fire services on Grey Cloud Island could be affected because there would be limited apparatus available should the roadways be closed. Police response would involve leaving a squad on the island and personnel responding via boat. Emergency Medical Services would be arranged through local helicopter service and landing zones have been identified on the island. In regards to River Acres, emergency services would continue. Public Works intends on delivering sand and bags for homeowners in affected areas. If needed, police would provide security and controlled access to affected areas. It is imperative that the Council come to consensus on the level of response of city services in order that equipment, materials and personnel are procured in advance of any potential flooding because resources will be in high demand all across the state.
