Williams District Manager 100 South First Street, Room 409 Minneapolis, MN 55401 -9990 RE: 60 -Day Comment Period for Cottage Grove, Minnesota LISPS Relocation Dear Mr. Mattox and Mr. Williams: 651- 458 -2800 Fax 651- 458 -2897 TDD 651- 458 -2880 The recent information on the relocation of the Cottage Grove, Minnesota, Post Office necessitates that I contact you on behalf of the City of Cottage Grove. Since 1849 when the first Post Office was established in Cottage Grove, the City has continued to evolve and develop around the needs and desires of a growing population. The central location of a convenient postal facility has clearly been an integral component to the fabric of daily life within the community. As the needs for your organization change in reaction to current market trends and changes in information dissemination paths, I would ask that the needs of the residents of Cottage Grove not be overlooked. The planned relocation to the 95th Street USPS facility will certainly function adequately given our sound transportation network; however, the convenience and synergy of being located within a commercial area will be lost. One suggestion that has been made is for the provision of an Auto- mated Postal Center (APC) similar to the one located at Valley Creek Road and County Road 19 in Woodbury. This APC could be facilitated with redevelopment of the current site. The availability of a 24 -hour service facility for your customers and our citizens would be advantageous to explore to keep the convenience factor and synergy of the Gateway North commercial area vibrant. The City will be glad to work with you on this suggestion as well as finding the right redevelopment potential for your current facility on East Point Douglas Road. The City has a strong history of fos- tering growth and redevelopment and partnering with property owners and developers to build a strong community in which to live, work, and play.
