RE: Civic Campus_ Memorial Tribute Feature Sub - Committee
Introduction
The Council is requested to appoint a ten - member sub - committee to explore options for the
establishment of a Civic Campus memorial tribute feature.
• . ,
A common civic iconic feature that has been discussed for many years in the City is the estab-
lishment of a local veteran's memorial. The full scope of such a feature has had many suggested
forms and attributes. It has been determined that an appropriate location to finally establish such
a feature in Cottage Grove would be at the new Civic Campus site.
Discussion
As the development plans for the new Public Safety /City Hall progress, the design and review of
special features and additions to the final site design have begun. Based on the project timeline, it
is recommended that a site sub - committee be established to explore options for the establish-
ment of a Civic Campus memorial tribute feature. The envisioned tasks of the sub - committee
would be as follows:
1. Meet the established Civic Campus project design timeline requirements.
2. Meet the budgetary parameters allocated for the memorial tribute feature.
3. Determine a recommendation of who will be memorialized and honored with the tribute
feature.
4. Determine a recommendation of how to best memorialize and honor those who have
served.
5. Determine a recommendation of an appropriate location for the memorial tribute feature.
6. Determine a recommendation on the project design of the memorial tribute feature.
7. Determine a project construction schedule.
The Community Development Department has taken the lead in soliciting names for inclusion in a
list of member nomination to the planned sub - committee. It is recommended that representatives
from the following local entities be appointed:
American Legion
VFW
Honorable Mayor, City Council, and Ryan Schroeder

4. Cottage Grove City Council Member
5, Public Safety Commission Member
6. Army National Guard
7. Police Department
8. Fire Department
9. CG Lions
10. Citizen at Large
The inclusion of a youth representative would an additional option and would still keep the sub-
committee at a reasonable number to function properly.
