Taylor, Jr., Public Works Supervisor From: Mark Oton, Shop Foreman Date: May 12, 2011 Subject: 2011 Equipment/Vehicle Replacement Purchase Included in the authorized 2011 Equipment/Vehicle Replacement Schedule is the replacement of Unit 41- 8506 -02, a 2002 Jacobsen 16 -foot rotary mower for the Parks Maintenance Division. Budgeted amount, including trade -in, is $85,000.00. After discussion with Parks personnel, it was agreed upon that we should keep our present unit 41- 8506 -02, a 16 -foot rotary mower and replace unit 41- 8502 -01, a Jacobsen 10.6 foot rotary mower because of age, hours of usage and condition. After evaluation of several brands of mowers with Parks Division personnel, the Toro Model GM4100 -D exceeded others in many areas. Additionally, it would be identical to our two Toro 10.5 foot mowers. The City is eligible to purchase this equipment through the 2011 Minnesota Material Management Division and MTI Distributing, Inc., Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. The following quotation is attached: MTI DISTRIBUTING, Brooklyn Center, MN (1) One New Toro Model GM4100 -D 10.5 foot Rotary Mower: $50,979.47 Tax: 3,504.83 Total: $54,484.30 With the approximate $30,000.00 dollar savings from downsizing from a 16 -foot mower to a 10.5 foot mower, and the sale of unit 41- 8502 -01, the Jacobsen mower, we are looking to purchase a utility -type vehicle that could be used for summer and winter maintenance tasks throughout the City by Public Works personnel. We will return at a later date for authorization to purchase. As you and I have discussed and agreed upon, the recommendation is to ask Council for approval to purchase one new Toro GM4100 -D 10.5 -foot Rotary Mower from MTI Distributing, Inc. for the purchase price of $54,484.30 which includes sales tax.
