The VMC liked the fact that the Memorial would potentially be visible from Council Chambers. What does the memorial consist of? Three main large flag poles (30 feet + / -). a. Sized and arranged as per flag etiquette. b. US flag c. Minnesota flag d. POW /MIA flag e. Flags illuminated f. A fourth pole could be added for a City flag 2. Five smaller flag poles (20 feet +A) with flags of the branches referenced above. a. Flagpoles arranged around the perimeter of the Memorial in conjunction with the recognized service branch area. b. Monument base for flag poles same native limestone as utilized in rest of PSCH project. c. Poles could be mounted in base if feasible. d. Illumination of the service flags should be ambient from fountain lighting. 3. Five native limestone benches a. Benches arranged around the perimeter of the Memorial in conjunction with the recognized service branch area. b. Benches should include engraving of branch motto on interior and exterior faces. i. U.S. Marine Corp: "Semper Fidelis" ii. U.S. Air Force: "Fly- Fight- Win!" iii. U.S. Coast Guard: "Semper Paratus" iv. U.S Navy: "Honor, Courage, Commitment" v. U.S. Army: "This we'll defend" 4. One low- profile colored concrete fountain as a central feature of the design. a. Gentle water flow action 5 to 6 feet in height. b. Lighting in fountain. c. Decorative cap on fountain rim. d. Two quotes engraved on top of fountain cap. i. Suggestion for quote 1 - "How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and sheroes!" - Maya Angelou. ii. Five bronze medallions about a foot in diameter recognizing the five service branches referenced in above. a. Medallions arranged around the perimeter of the fountain in conjunction with the recognized service branch area. 6. One large focal point memorial message monument a. Utilize native limestone block. b. Locate near U.S. Flag. c. Create with message or theme of memorial. d. Utilize large bronze plaque sized appropriately to monument. 7. Several garden beds incorporated into final design adjacent to Memorial a. Include annuals b. Include perennials c. Include shrubs d. Irrigate e. Plan for winter interest What about personal memorials? Include personalized memorial paver bricks into a portion of the Memorial design. • Complete additional research on appropriate paver design and placement. • Have five monetary tribute categories differentiated by size, location or design. • Bronze • Silver • Gold • Platinum • Corporate When will the feature be dedicated? The VMC would like to have the dedication ceremony on Veterans Day 2012 after the PSCH site has been opened. • Committee member Nate George has volunteered to coordinate with the 934th Base Honor Guard from the Minneapolis Air Reserve Station to assist with the ceremony. How will the improvement be funded?
