The Commission was able to tour two senior housing developments. The first
development was located in Maplewood at the Cazefree Cottages, Villas, & Chateau.
Most of their apartments and cottage homes are part of the Section 42 program. These
homes aze restricted to residents based on age and yearly income guidelines:
One Person $32,220
Two people $36,840
Three People $41,400
For people who are over these guidelines they offer 34 apartments at market rate. Rental
rates aze currenfly:
Apartments:
1 Bedroom $649.00
2 Bedroom $759.00
3 Bedroom $869.00
3 BR Market $1159.00 (1300 Sq Ft.)
Cottage Homes:
1 Bedroom $689.00 (735 Sq Ft.)
2 Bedroom $799.00 (925 Sq. Ft.)
3 Bedroom $869.00 (1030 Sq. Ft.)
3 Br Market $1,159.00 (1300 Sq. Ft.)
Gazages aze $50.00 for attached &$40.00 for detached and garage bays. Rental rates
include water, sewer, refuse removal, lawn care, snow removal, and maintenance. Heat
is paid for in the Chateau aparhnents only.
This senior housing development is well maintained.
Next, the Commission went to BoutwelPs Landing in Oak Park Heights. This is a new
140-acre senior housing development. When it is complete, it will include 94 assisted
living units, 101 units of senior apartments, and a large amount of senior town homes.
This development will also include a bank, general store, meeting rooms, and in house
medical caze.
All of the units in this complex were completed with senior needs in mind. The units
include safety monitors, handicap accessible bathrooms, and high quality construction.
We spoke to Chuck Fullmer from Presbyterian Homes and he said they have been
looking at the Cottage Grove azea for senior housing. He said Presbyterian Homes is
trying to set up senior housing in communities surrounding Boutwell's Landing.
The units require an entrance deposit, which is extremely high and residents also pay a
monthly fee. The entrance deposit is returned to the resident once they leave the facility.
