HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002-03-13 MINUTESCity of Cottage Grove Human Services/Right Commission Meeting Minutes Wednesday, March 13, 2002 Members Present: Kathleen Klein, Bruce Schmidt, Michael Watts, Grace Krumm, Kristin Haertl and Jim Shinn Members Absent: Bart Fischer Staff Liaison: Scott Johnson Council Liaison: Guests: Everett Wright and Marilyn Woodsall, All Saints Lutheran Church 7:10 PM Call to Order The Commission approved the minutes from the January 9` and the February 13`� meetings. Next, the Commission discussed the young man from Cottage Grove with Cerebral Palsy who was denied the use of his service dog at school. The fact situation is still unclear to the Commission. A motion was passed to have Grace Krurnm contact and discuss the situation with the young man's mother. Also, Bruce Schmidt will contact the Woodbury Human Services Commissions Chair to find out if their Commission has addressed this issue. This issue will be discussed in further detail at the next meeting. Next, the Commission discussed the senior housing tour members took during the last meeting. The Commission was able to tour Boutwell's Landing in Oak Pazk Heights. It is a large project done by Presbyterian Homes. It includes single level town homes, senior apartments, and assisted living. The two seniar housing developments the Commission visited in Mapiewood were also nice, but not the same quality as Boutwell's Landing. The residents the Commission spoke to enjoy ]iving in both developments. The Commission would like to see a number of amenities in a new development in Cottage Grove. They would like to see cable and fiber optics standard in all the rooms. Also, the Commission thought emergency help buttons and a calling system would be good amenities in each unit. The Commission also wants to discourage the use of studio aparhnents in any development. Finally, all apartments should come standard with microwaves, stoves, refrigerators, and dishwashers. Next, the Commission welcomed Everett Wright and Marilyn Woodsall to discuss senior housing. They represent a group from All Saints Lutheran who is looking into a possible faith based senior housing project. They will be holding a Mazch 18` meeting to discuss with all of the City's clergy what direction the community should move in for Senior Housing. They would also like to include Newport and St. Paul Pazk in the decision making process. Jim Shinn made a motion to adjourn. Michael Watts seconded the motion. The meeting adjourned at 8:40 PM.
