The Commission approved the minutes from the January 9` and the February 13`
meetings. Next, the Commission discussed the young man from Cottage Grove with
Cerebral Palsy who was denied the use of his service dog at school. The fact situation is
still unclear to the Commission. A motion was passed to have Grace Krurnm contact and
discuss the situation with the young man's mother. Also, Bruce Schmidt will contact the
Woodbury Human Services Commissions Chair to find out if their Commission has
addressed this issue. This issue will be discussed in further detail at the next meeting.
Next, the Commission discussed the senior housing tour members took during the last
meeting. The Commission was able to tour Boutwell's Landing in Oak Pazk Heights. It
is a large project done by Presbyterian Homes. It includes single level town homes,
senior apartments, and assisted living.
The two seniar housing developments the Commission visited in Mapiewood were also
nice, but not the same quality as Boutwell's Landing. The residents the Commission
spoke to enjoy ]iving in both developments.
The Commission would like to see a number of amenities in a new development in
Cottage Grove. They would like to see cable and fiber optics standard in all the rooms.
Also, the Commission thought emergency help buttons and a calling system would be
good amenities in each unit. The Commission also wants to discourage the use of studio
aparhnents in any development. Finally, all apartments should come standard with
microwaves, stoves, refrigerators, and dishwashers.
Next, the Commission welcomed Everett Wright and Marilyn Woodsall to discuss senior
housing. They represent a group from All Saints Lutheran who is looking into a possible
faith based senior housing project. They will be holding a Mazch 18` meeting to discuss
with all of the City's clergy what direction the community should move in for Senior
Housing. They would also like to include Newport and St. Paul Pazk in the decision
making process.
