7:08 PM Call to Order
The Commission approved the minutes from the October meeting. The Commission was
pleased with the press release that was sent to the local media on the MHFA programs for
housing rehabilitation. Council Member Rod Hale gave the Commission an update on
the senior housing projects in Cottage Grove. The Cheetah development changed its
concept on a 3 story co-operative senior housing development. They are looking into
altematives after citizens complained at a public meeting on the three story project.
Presbyterian Homes is still trying to put together a project at Cottage Square. Currently,
there is a gap in the funding for this project. Mike Rygh is proposing a senior housing
component for his development. Scott Johnson will check with Kim Lindquist about the
progress of the Cheetah Development and give the commission an update at the next
meeting. Rod Hale suggested that the Commission stay on top of senior housing until a
project is completed.
Next, the Commission welcomed John Walker to the meeting. The South Washington
County Housing Coalition did receive a CDBG grant for housing. However, the grant
was not given in time to save the houses that were being moved due to the Hwy 10/61
construction. The coalition has turned its attention to 3 acres of property in Newport that
were opened up due to the construction. They will work in conjunction with habitat For
humanity to build 8 twin-homes that will have space for 16 families. They coalition
needs a zoning amendment to PUD in Newort to allow this project to move forward.
The coalition will also be celebrating its 2" anniversary. Commission members are
invited to the Dea 12` celebration at City Hall. Please contact John Walker before the
event if you want to attend.
A Motion was made to adjoum the meeting by Jim Shinn. The motion was seconded by
Bart Fischer and the motion carried unanimously. The meeting adjoumed at 8:05 PM.
