HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002-11-13 MINUTESCity of Cottage Grove Human Services/Right Commission Meeting Minutes Wednesday, November 13, 2002 Members Present: Kathleen Klein, I{ristin Haertl, Jim Shinn, and Bart Fischer Members Absent: Bruce Schmidt, Michael Watts, and Grace Krumm Staff Liaison: Scott Johnson Council Liaison: Rod Hale Guests: John Walker, South Washington County Housing Coalition 7:08 PM Call to Order The Commission approved the minutes from the October meeting. The Commission was pleased with the press release that was sent to the local media on the MHFA programs for housing rehabilitation. Council Member Rod Hale gave the Commission an update on the senior housing projects in Cottage Grove. The Cheetah development changed its concept on a 3 story co-operative senior housing development. They are looking into altematives after citizens complained at a public meeting on the three story project. Presbyterian Homes is still trying to put together a project at Cottage Square. Currently, there is a gap in the funding for this project. Mike Rygh is proposing a senior housing component for his development. Scott Johnson will check with Kim Lindquist about the progress of the Cheetah Development and give the commission an update at the next meeting. Rod Hale suggested that the Commission stay on top of senior housing until a project is completed. Next, the Commission welcomed John Walker to the meeting. The South Washington County Housing Coalition did receive a CDBG grant for housing. However, the grant was not given in time to save the houses that were being moved due to the Hwy 10/61 construction. The coalition has turned its attention to 3 acres of property in Newport that were opened up due to the construction. They will work in conjunction with habitat For humanity to build 8 twin-homes that will have space for 16 families. They coalition needs a zoning amendment to PUD in New�ort to allow this project to move forward. The coalition will also be celebrating its 2" anniversary. Commission members are invited to the Dea 12` celebration at City Hall. Please contact John Walker before the event if you want to attend. A Motion was made to adjoum the meeting by Jim Shinn. The motion was seconded by Bart Fischer and the motion carried unanimously. The meeting adjoumed at 8:05 PM. Next meeting is 7:00 PM December 11, 2002
