L Call to Order
At 7:05 PM the meeting was called to order.
2. Approval of Minutes
Rajean Moone made a motion to approve the minutes of the April 2006 meeYing. Regina
Seabrook seconded the inotion aad the motioil was approved unanimously.
3. Weicome Danisa Farley as member and Jennifer Peterson as candidate
The Commissioiiers welcomed the new Commissioner Danisa Farley and introduced themselves
to applicant Jennifer Peterson.
Jim Shinn made a motion to recommend the City Council appoint Jennifer Peterson to the
Human Rights and F3umau Services Commission. Danisa Farley seconded the motion and the
motion was approved unaniinously.
4. Diversity Highlight of the Month
Chairman Moone provided a list of highlights for the month of May: 01der American month,
Asian Pacific Islauder month, and National Women's Aealtl2 week.
5. City Update
Discussion ensued regarding the progress of the Presbyferian Aomes project. Council Liaison
Karla Bigham informed the Commissioners that Danisa Farley has been appointed by the
Council as a Commissioner and also the City's budget process would begin in July.
Staff Liaison Jessica Sandin updated the Commission on the consolidation of the City Dispatch
Communications Center to Washington County. Sandin also requested direction on Che July
joint City Council meeting. Chairman Moone suggesfed the following topics: NCN, Strawberry
Fest, Fssay Contest, s�eakers, new members, and trouble recruit:n� yeuth members, animal
license fee, and a request to utilize the Commission in accessibitity standards for the East
Ravine. Sandin will gather last year's materials For the June meeting. The Commission decided
to hold its regular Ju1y meeting after the joint meeting on the 5`�", therefore canceling the July 12�'
meeting.
6. Neighbors Connecting Neighbors Update
Christie Thompson reported the NCNU segment on charities is now airing. The Commissioners
who have seen the episode stated there were great speakers and good website referrals. The
Commission coordinated the 2006 shows topics and designated the lead person as follows:
� Regina Seabrook will be coardinating the July update on parent resources for children
with disabiliries. �
• Danisa Farley and Jen Peterson will coordinate the September update domestic abuse.
■ Rajean Moone plans to discuss Medicare for the November 2006 show.
This list of ideas for 1\TCNU will continue to grow and be refined. The Commission members
agreed they want the programs to empower the viewer. Ideas brainstormed for future programs
include:
• Menfal health (depression)
• Drug/alcohol abuse
• Volunteerism
• Class-conscious
• African culYure
• Food sheif
• Victims Rights
7. Special Projects Update
The Commission was given the response from the Police Department in regards to tl�e request to
meet with the Commission. Chairman Moone stated he respecYs and understands the current
time crunch the DeparCment is under and the topic will be deferred until September. Topics of
interest are a proactive plan for response to hate/bias crimes, opening channels of
communication, offering to provide diversity txaining for first respanders, and w have a
quesYion/answer session.

A motion was made and seconded to adjourn; the motion was approved unanimously at 8:00 PM.
