HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006-10-11 MINUTESCity of Cottage Grove Human Services/Rights Commission Meeting Minufes Wednesday, October ll, 2006 Members Present: Rajean Moone, Chair Cathy Lariu (arrived at 7:25 PM) Jen Peterson Jim Shinn Christie Thompson Council Liaison: Karla Bigham (absent) Staff Liaison: Joe Fischbach Members Absent: Danisa Farley 1. Call to Order At 7:05 PM the meeting was called to order. 2. Approval of Minutes Jim Shinn made a motion to approve the minutes of the September 2006 meeting. Jen Peterson seconded the motion, All Present in Favor. 3. Facing Race Conversations- St Paul Foundation The Commission wi11 have a special meeting on Saturday, October 21 s ` at 1:00 PM at Park Grove Library to view the DVD and have a discussion. 4. Essay Contest After sending out an e-mail fo teachers in the South Washington County School District, Chairman Moone reported he has received 4 positive responses and at least one teacher wants a representative from the Commission to come talk to the class. T'he Commission will send out a press release in December. 5. 200'7 Goals Joe Fischbach will bring a copy of last year's goais and aceomplishments to the neXt regular meeting for the Commission to review. 6. Diversity Highlight of the Month None 7. City Update The seroice animal project the Commission has been working on has been approved by Council. A copy of the new ordinance will be in next month's packet. Joe Fisehbach reminded the Commission about the upcoming election. 8. Neighbors Connecting Neighbors Update A segment about Autism is currently airing. The Commission is looking at changin� the format for the next segment. They would like to Cape out in The community rather than in the� studio. The next topie will be domestic violence. 9. Commission Comments & Requests A new film regarding hate crime is out and the writer is looking� for commnnities fhat are willing to host a showing.
