Levitt, P.E., City Engineer Date: September 29, 2011 Re: Highlands Park Splash Pad Soils Correction - Quote Background /Discussion: The City Council on September 21, 2011 approved the plans and specifications for the construction of a splash pad at Highlands Park. As a cost savings measure a quote package was assembled to utilize excess granular material from the Ravine Parkway site for the necessary soil corrective work for the splash pad. The excess granular material provides an estimated savings of $11,000 for the soil correction work and the overall project cost. The proposed soil correction work would take place this fall and would be prepared in a manner to minimize frost impacts to the area and to enable the contractor of the splash pad to begin construction in early spring. This will help in achieving a July 4, 2012 opening. There were a total of 2 quotes. The following summarizes the results of the quotes received: Contractor Quoted Amount Low Eureka Construction, Inc. $ 23,272.50 #2 Hydrocon, Inc. $ 36,942.50 The lowest accepted quote on the project will be Eureka Construction, Inc. at $23,272.50. Recommendation: It is recommended to award the project to the lowest accepted quote, supplied by Eureka Construction, Inc. at $23,272.50. RESOLUTION NO. 2011- RESOLUTION AWARDING QUOTE FOR THE SOIL CORRECTION WORK AT HIGHLANDS PARK SPLASH PAD TO EUREKA CONSTRUCTION, INC. IN THE AMOUNT OF $23,272.50 WHEREAS, Quotes were requested to begin soil correction work at Highlands Park Splash Pad site; and WHEREAS, two firms submitted quotes; and WHEREAS, it appears that Eureka Construction, Inc. is the lowest responsible quoter; and WHEREAS, it is the recommendation of the City Engineer that the contract be awarded to Eureka Construction, Inc. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Cottage Grove, County of Washington, State of Minnesota, that the contract for soil correction at Highlands Park Splash Pad site be awarded to Eureka Construction Inc. in the amount of $23,272.50.
