Highway 61 where it intersects with 80th. Street,
has designated for redevelopment by the

Dockter named Arena /Recreation head
A native of Cottage Grove who played hockey here as a youth has
returned to the City as Ice
Arena /Recreation Manager.
Zachary Dockter is a graduate of
Park High School and St. Cloud
University with a B.A. in Business"
.
Management He also earned a
Certificate of Ice Arena Management 1
from the University of Michigan... =
He worked as Building Manager and
Events Supervisor at the National
Hockey Center in St. Cloud, and as
Arena Manager at the Princeton (MN) Ice
Arena.
In his new position, Dockter said, "I Zac Dockter
hope to build on current relationships
with customers at the Arena, and to increase the sales of off - season
ice time." In the Recreation area, he said, he hopes to set up a main-
tenance plan for Park buildings, shelters, and playground equipment.
Dockter said the Cottage Grove Hockey Assn. has been "very open
and very nice," and the City staff has been very helpful.
"I've run into a lot of people I know from Cottage Grove, and I
want to meet many more of our residents," Dockter said. "Please visit
the newly remodeled rink this summer."
City, CGHA team up to remodel Ice Arena
Remodeling of the locker rooms and vending area at the Cottage
Grove Ice Arena is now underway, thanks to collaboration by the City
and the Cottage Grove Hockey Association.
The CGHA made a generous donation toward the replacement of
the 15- year -old matting in the Arena's lower level. The same area will
be painted gray with forest green borders, and a new sound system
will be installed.
Arena Staff and the Hockey Association arc excited about this
project, and invite the public to view the "new" downstairs during
summer ice times and the 2002 -03 hockey season.
The Arena will re -open June 16 for summer lessons, clinics, and
open skating. For more information, see the Recreation pages of this
newsletter or go to www.cottage- grove.org and click on "Ice Arena."

In mid -May, the Economic
Development Authority and
Cottage Grove City Council
authorized Land purchases
necessary to proceed with the
development of a Kohl's Dept.
Store north of 80th Street and
east of Highway 61.
Walgreen's, TCF, and the
retail center will be complete
this year, with the Walgreen's
expected to open by July.
With the relocation of
Walgreen's to its new location,
redevelopment of Grove Plaza
is possible. Removal of envi-
ronmental hazards in the
shopping center is underway,
and construction of a new
Home Depot and reconstruc-
tion of portions of the Grove
Plaza Shopping Center are
expected this summer.
Earlier this spring, demoli-
tion of a vacant fast food build-
ing paved the way for a fueling
station owned and operated by
Rainbow Foods. A stormwater
drainage facility has already
been built in the area.
Just outside the Gateway
District, the new 76 -room
Country Inn and Suites Hotel
is scheduled to open by July at
East Point Douglas and 90th
Street.
Streetscaping enhance-
ments, including new street
light standards, banners, and
landscaping, will be added to
the Gateway to enhance the
aesthetics of this important
retail district.
Kisbys honored as
'02 Preservationists
David and Jill Kisby, 7679
Lamar Ave. S., have been
named the 2002 Preservation-
ists of the Year by the Advisory
Committee on Historic
Preservation. The two were
honored at the May 15 City
Council meeting for their work
to restore the historic Dr.
William W. Furber House.
Built in 1901 as the resi-
dence of a prominent local
physician, the Furber House is
a picturesque frame cottage
with a distinctive gambrel roof.
The Msbys purchased the
property a few years ago, and
have worked to restore the
interior rooms to their early -
20th century appearance.

is underway this spring, with
the first phase of the project
scheduled for completion by the
end of September, 2002.
The project is a part of the
City's ongoing Pavement

replacement of Xcel gas mains,
installation of new storm sew-
ers, replacement of the existing

2000 Census creates new
legislative districts, precinct
boundaries, polling places
A split in legislative districts, new
precinct boundaries, and relocated polling
places will affect Cottage Grove voters,
beginning with the primary election this
September.
The changes grew out of the 2000 U.S.
Census, which caused the redrawing of
state legislative boundaries to match the
population shifts since 1990.
According to the new State Legislative
redistricting plan, Cottage Grove will form
parts of two state legislative districts,
served by House of Representative seats
57A and 57B. Precincts 2 through 8 will
be in District 57A, while voters in
Precincts 1 and 9 -12 will vote for House
District 57B. All voters in the City will
vote for Senate District 57. Cottage Grove
will shift from Congressional District 6 to
the newly redrawn District 2.
At right is a map of the new precinct
boundaries and polling places approved
by the Cottage Grove City Council.
Residents will also be notified by mail of
changes in their Legislative District,
precincts, and polling locations.
