Subject: Municipal Pool Building Reuse
With the closure of the outdoor municipal pool operations, staff has been charged with identifying the
future of the site. Staff believes an immediate step will be to demolish the pool structure and fill the
void in with material to bring the site back to grade. This work would likely take place during the 2012
construction season and would eliminate safety and health hazards associated with the existence of a 4
to 12 foot hole on an unsupervised site.
In regards to the building itself, the EDA has authorized funding to coordinate a design program that will
analyze potential reuse of the building. The vision that will be explored is that of a historical restoration
project ultimately returning the facility to its original intent as a community hall. A design team is being
formed to review the potential reuse of this facility and how it may have a positive impact on the
community once again. The design team will consist of representatives from multiple advisory
commissions, the city council and staff. Staff is requesting two representatives from the following
commissions to participate in a design meeting on Tuesday, December 6 from 6 to 9pm:
1. Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Commission
2. Historic Preservation Commission
3. Planning Commission
Please consider serving the community for this project. The commitment is likely to be minimal beyond
the initial design meeting. Should you be interested in partaking, contact your staff liaison.
