Subject: Woodridge Park Fall Upgrades
The Parks Maintenance division has dedicated quality time, efforts and resources to Woodridge Park
this fall. A brief explanation of the projects along with pictures are included below for your review.
Woodridge Ballfield #42
The parks maintenance crew re -lined infield turf seams to reduce "lips" that create non -ideal playing
conditions and in some cases even posed safety concerns. This project started with the removal of turf
and dirt along all infield seams, then re- grading and sodding back in with new turf.
This field also was also the recipient of new concrete block dugouts. This project was completed with
financial assistance from the Cottage Grove Athletic Association and will be a great addition to our
community's premier baseball facility. These are the only concrete dugouts in our community park
system.
The pitching mound was rebuilt and tarps were purchased to keep the pitching and batting surfaces in
quality condition throughout the year.
Bullpens were touched up and fencing was placed behind the plates to reduce errant balls being thrown
about the park area.
A grant for a scoreboard from BSN Sports was applied for but declined in October. Staff will continue
to search for these types of opportunities to provide an electronic scoreboard for the facility.
Woodridge Ballfield #43
This field received player bench covers with another generous donation from Cottage Grove Athletic
Association. The pitching mounds and infields were also reworked by the maintenance crew to
improve the playing surfaces.
Picnic Shelter
The wood picnic shelter that was burned down in July is being replaced with a steel structure and all
new picnic tables and trash receptacles. Completion is expected by mid - November.
Trees
Over 15 trees will be planted throughout the park. This will increase total shaded areas for the benefit
all park users and just as importantly aids the turf quality in that it will reduce negative impacts of heat
and sun during the summer months.
