The Commission asked about scheduling a community center workshop. December 2000 Community center survey of 12 facilities within the metropolitan area was presented to the Parks Recreation and Natural Resources Commission. January 8 2001 Community Center revenues from other communities was presented to the Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Commission. February 12, 2001 I Community center survey results were updated and presented to the Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Commission, May 14 2001 The Parks Recreation and Natural Resources Commission discussed the timeline fora community center and requested that this matter be discussed at a future joint meeting with the City Council. i June 11, 2001 t Parks Recreation and Natural Resources Commission was presented with additional survey information. The Commission suggested that the information should be distributed to other interested parties A list of proposed uses within a community center was developed. August 13, 2001 I Parks Recreation and Natural Resources Commission expressed an interested in obtaining more information about a private /public partnership for a proposed community center. September 10, 2001 Parks Recreation and Natural Resources Commission reviewed the draft community center scopinq sheet and suggested that comments from the Senior Center Washington County YMCA other city advisory commissions City Council and Cottage Grove Athletic Association be solicited. The Commission discussed banquet facilities and public meeting rooms. i November 12, 2001 Community center scopinq survey draft was reviewed by the Parks Recreation and Natural Resource Commission. The Commission suggested the scopinq survey be distributed to city advisory commissions City Council other civic groups and local religious institutions. Febn,ary 11. 2002 March 11, 2002 Parks Recreation and Natural Resources Commission reviewed the results of the Communitv Center Scooina Survey #1. Pool /Indoor water park ranked high. Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Commission discussed how to assist City Council in researching and investigating the development of a community center. April 8, 2002 Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Commission adopted 2002 Goals and Objectives, Short Term Goal #3 assisting the City Council in researching and investigating into development of a community center. Future joint meeting with City Council for direction and layout guidelines for 2002. Page 1 of 5 Community Center Task Force's Process Summary May 13, 2001 Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Commission discussed the idea of a community center in Cottage Grove. Commission members were encouraged to visit other community centers. September 18, 2002 I Joint meeting with City Council and Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Commission. Community Center was discussed. October 16, 2002 Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Commission discussed the City Council's direction that the Commission continue to pursue a needs assessment for a community center. Commission members discussed the survey that was sent out in the winter of 2001 and identified sites within the community center where a community center could be located. November 11, 2002 Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Commission held community center workshop and developed a planning outline. December 11, 2002 Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Commission developed a Planning Process Outline. Developed six goals. Concerns expressed for replicating facilities and I serviced, competition with existing businesses, supported an idea that a coffee shop be with a community center and discussed the idea of leasing space in the community center for other businesses. January 13, 2003 C private Parks Recreation and Natural Resources Commission discussed future sites for community center. A map showing the general location of future parks was presented to the Commission The City's Finance Director provided the Commission with a memorandum the generally described tax implications if a community center was approved The Commission discussed the possibility of a public/private partnership, health clubs ISD 833 and operating costs. February 10 2003 Parks Recreation and Natural Resources Commission reviewed the revised community i center location map The process of preparing an areawide planning study for the East Ravine area was discussed The Commission discussed an idea of athletic fields, open space trails and other future public buildings. March 10, 2002 Parks Recreation and Natural Resources Commission discussed the potential sites for a community center. September 8 2003 It was reported to the Parks Recreation and Natural Resources Commission that a Task Force was being formed for the preparation of a planning document for the future growth in the East Ravine The Commission expressed an interest that athletic fields and cmmnlex he considered with the community center. November 8, 2003 I The Parks Recreation and Natural Resources Commission was informed that a Citizen Advisory Team will be formed to begin work on master planning the area of the community known as East Ravine The community center topic might be part of that process. December 8, 2003 It was reported to the Parks Recreation and Natural Resources Commission that the Citizen Advisory Team for the East Ravine will meet on December 9 2003.
