STAFF RECOMMENDATION Authorize issuance of the single- occasion gambling permit. During the required background investigation, no facts were found that would constitute a basis for denial of the application. Woolery Date: April 9, 2012 Subject: GAMBLING LICENSE APPLICATION - TEMPORARY INTRODUCTION All charitable organizations which are exempt from the requirements of the Minnesota Charitable Gambling Control Board and who desire to conduct lawful gambling within the City of Cottage Grove, must obtain a gambling permit. The issuance of lawful gambling permits is subject to local approval by the City Council. BACKGROUND Pursuant to City Ordinance, Patrick James Forsythe, on behalf of the Cottage Grove Lions Club, PO Box 2, Cottage Grove, MN 55016, has submitted an application for a Temporary Single Occasion gambling permit, for the conduct of raffles to be held at VFW (Red Barn), located at 8770 E. Pt. Douglas Drive So., Cottage Grove MN, 55016 on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, Tuesday, August 21s, 2012 and Tuesday, September 18 2012. The Department of Public Safety is required to conduct a police investigation of the applicants. DISCUSSION The application as submitted is complete, in compliance with our ordinance and is exempt from the licensing requirements of the Minnesota Charitable Gambling Control Board. We have investigated the applicants and have not found any facts that would constitute a basis for denial of this application, under the provisions of the City's Gambling Ordinance. RECOMMENDATION Recommend that the City Council approve the single occasion Gambling Permit application for the Cottage Grove Lions Club. 0 Craig A. Woolefy — Director of
