Re: Update on Park Activities
Below is an overview of Park activities that are complete, projects /programs we are working
on, and upcoming projects /programs:
COMPLETED PROJECTS /PROGRAMS
• Kingston Park prep for Running with the Wolves Tournament
• Install all sport netting; volleyball, tennis, basketball
• Lining of all ballfields
• Grading of baseball infields
• Turf spraying
• Trail inspection /repairs
• Open space mowing
• Hiring/Training of seasonal staff
• Service irrigation systems
CURRENT PROJECTS /PROGRAMS
• Routine park maintenance; mowing, ballfields, turf maintenance, cleaning, trash, etc.
• Repairing concrete /grass around Woodridge shelter
• Aerating, fertilizing and overseeding ballfields
• Landscaping bed weeding /mulching /planting
• Splash pad construction
• Repair ballfield fencing
• Playground inspections
• Clearing /grubbing of Hardwood Park oak woods
• Sunnyhill park development
UPCOMING PROJECTS /PROGRAMS
• Strawberry Fest preparations /operations
• Boulevard tree plantings — 70 trees
• Install new park rules signage
• Dog park dead tree removal
• Develop ash tree removal project as part of EAB plan

Re: Recreation Division Update
Below is an overview of completed and current Recreation activities that staff is working on.
Past Projects /Programs
• The City has a new website layout and design which is a major improvement for the
Recreation Department.
• Finished our final session of Tot Spot for the school year at Pinetree Valley Park.
• Woodlands Rec Center had there final evening of activities in April — over 40 youth attended
the event.
• Cleaned, organized, and purchased items for Hamlet, Hearthside, Peter Thompson, Pinetree
Valley, and Woodridge Park for summer programs.
• Marketing our Summer Activities and Supervised Playgrounds which begin June 11.
• Interviewed and hired 12 staff for the summer and accepted 20 volunteers for the summer
Rec. Works Program. All staff and volunteers will have training on June 8.
• We currently have 3 Youth Lacrosse Teams playing for Cottage Grove — they will begin
competing in the Youth Lacrosse MN League in mid June.
• Brochure and Facility Use Guide for renting Highlands Park building and use of Splash Pad.
• Softball Leagues began at Lamar in late April.
Current Proiects /Programs
• All summer programs are a "GO "; finalizing programs that wrap up the summer in August and
looking forward to Fall 2012 programs and activities.
• Splash Pad Grand Opening on July 13, 2012.
• 2013 and 2014 Recreation Budget
• Strawberry Fest Activities sponsored by the Recreation Dept.:
• 5K Race
• 5K Walk
• Kids 1 Mile Run
• Co -Ed Softball Tournament
• Men's Softball Tournament
• Men's Home Run Derby
• Family Chalk Walk
Agenda/ Work Item
• Tobacco Free Policy — review comments from City Council Meeting and discuss other
options with a representative from Tobacco Free Youth Recreation.

Re: Update on Ice Arena Division Activities
Below is an overview of Ice Arena Activities that are complete, projects /programs we are
working on, and upcoming projects /programs:
COMPLETED PROJECTS /PROGRAMS
• Completed 2011 -2012 Cottage Grove Hockey Association season.
• West rink ice was removed. Dry floor is now available for events.
• Hosted the Jose Cole Circus, Chamber of Commerce Business Showcase, and Wal-
Mart neighborhood meeting.
• Completed our annual Ice Show. Over 600 people attended and 89 participants.
• Spring Skating Lessons.
CURRENT PROJECTS /PROGRAMS
• Maintenance: clean rink glass /boards, wash bleachers and locker rooms, compressor
maintenance, resurfacer maintenance, ice maintenance, miscellaneous lighting
replacement, floor scrubbing, dehumidifier and air handling unit maintenance.
• Summer Skating Lessons, Summer Hockey Programs.
• Painting locker rooms and north rink bleachers.
• Scheduling ice time for upcoming season.
• Promoting dry floor rentals.
UPCOMING PROJECTS /PROGRAMS
• 2012/2013 hockey and figure skating season.
• Hosting NHL Player charity game on July 11
• Finalize Cottage Grove Hockey Association schedule for 2012 -2013 season.
• Promote summer ice time and dry floor.
