The program allocated monies for cardiac related projects or equipment for communities enrolled into this process. We have been awarded $5,000.00 in grant monies for a Lucas Device for Paramedic Levang's efforts in cardiac arrest data entry. BACKGROUND Cottage Grove EMS provides a variety of emergency medical services to the communities of Grey Cloud, St. Paul Park, Newport and Cottage Grove. Our services are quick response ALS with police and firefighter paramedics and a paid 24/7 duty crew. Currently two LUCAS devices were budgeted for 2013 and the $5,000.00 will be used to offset the budgeted costs. A LUCAS is an air or battery operated CPR device, which preforms automated active compression /decompression to a victim in cardiac arrest. It has been shown in numerous clinical trials to improve both coronary and cerebral circulation. This translates into an increase overall survival rate for our community.
