COUNCIL ACTION REQUEST
Consider authorizing issuance of a temporary liquor license to the St. Paul Park/Newport Lions
in conjunction with a benefit for Samantha Crabtree to be held Sunday, September 9 h at the
Cottage Grove VFW.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Authorize issuance of the temporary liquor license. During the required background
investigation, no facts were found that constitute a basis for denial of the application.

Subject: LIQUOR LICENSE APPLICATION - TEMPORARY
INTRODUCTION
All locations within the City of Cottage Grove that sell alcoholic beverages are required
by State Law and City Ordinance to be licensed.
BACKGROUND
Pursuant to City Ordinance, Albert David Boche, Jr., on behalf of the St. Paul
Park /Newport Lions Club, P.O. Box 262, Cottage Grove, MN 55016, has submitted an
application for an on -sale temporary 3.2% beer liquor license to be held at the Cottage
Grove VFW on Sunday, September 9 2012. The Department of Public Safety is
required to conduct a police investigation of the applicant/manager in charge.
DISCUSSION
The application of the St. Paul Park /Newport Lions, as submitted, is complete and in
compliance with our ordinance.
We have investigated the applicant and have not found and facts that would constitute a
basis for denial of an on -sale temporary 3.2% beer liquor license, under the provisions
of the City Liquor Ordinance or Minnesota Statutes relating to alcoholic beverages.
Recommend that the City Council approve the Liquor License application for the St.
Paul Park/Newport Lions Club.

SAMANTHIA CRABTREE DAY
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2012
WHEREAS, Samanthia (George) Crabtree and her family are longtime
residents of Cottage Grove; and
WHEREAS, Samanthia and her husband Greg both attended Park High
School and are raising their children Madilyn and Easton in Cottage Grove; and
WHEREAS, on January 30th, Samanthia was diagnosed with Hodgkin's
Lymphoma; and
WHEREAS, on September 9th from 1 pm to 5 pm there will be a benefit
to support Sam, Greg, Madi and Easton at the Cottage Grove VFW Post 8752
Red Barn;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of
Cottage Grove, County of Washington, State of Minnesota, that Sunday,
September 9, 2012 be proclaimed Samanthia Crabtree Day in the City of
Cottage Grove.
