Re: PRESENTATION - 2012 CITIZEN ACADEMY GRADUATES
On September 27 2012, the Cottage Grove Police Department completed our
2 °d Citizen's Academy. This was an exciting opportunity for participants to
develop an understanding and awareness of the CGPD's operational policies
and procedures. We did have a graduation ceremony and certificates were
presented.
We would like to recognize the efforts of our 2012 Citizen Academy Graduates
and will provide a brief summary of the academy and introduce the participants.
The participants in the eight week Citizen's Academy experienced a variety of
topics — including lectures, demonstrations, ride - alongs, tours, and hands -on
exercises — taught by police officers or experts in particular fields. The Academy
is designed to create a safer community by building an understanding and
partnership between Cottage Grove citizens and the police department. The
mission of the Academy is twofold: 1) to promote understanding of contemporary
law enforcement issues and 2) to help citizens learn about and gain a better
appreciation for the challenges and accomplishments.
We believe we achieved our goal which is to enhance public safety, provide an
understanding of law enforcement strategies and problems, provide crime
prevention strategies and most importantly build relationships with the citizens of
Cottage Grove.
Sgt. Gwen Martin, who coordinates the program, will provide an overview of the 8
week academy, introduce and recognize the participants during the City Council
presentation.
