ADVIS�RY C�MMITTEE ON HISTORIC PRESERVATION
C�TTAGE �ROVE SESQUI�ENTENNIAL COMMITTEE

MINUTES OF MEETING

Pursuant to due call and natice thereof, a meeting af the Advisary
�arnmittee on Historic P�eservation (ACHP� was held jointly with the
Cottage Grave Sesquicentennial Committee at the Cottag� Grove Citp
Hall, ?516 $Oth atreet Sauth, on the $th dayof Apri11993,
The meetir�g was called to order by Chairperson Golusky at 7; 00 P. M,

Thase present were; Gerald Filson, Gary Goluslcy, Laureen Ott, Sharon
Sawyer, Sandra Shiely, and Rabert Vogel,
A�nroval of Minutes
� The minut�s of the 2 I�larch 1993 meeting af the Cottage Gr�ve
S�squicentennial Cornmittee meeting were distributed and approved,
Historic Preservation Week
Cottage Grave will celebrate National Histaric P�eservation Week during 4-
15 May 1993, The fallowing schedule of activities was adapted:
1� Freservation Week praclamatian by mayar and council �5 May}
2) Display P�eservation Week poster at city hall and library
3) "Old Buildings That Make My Cammunity Great" Essay Contest -
cosp�nsored by Natianal Trust far Historic P�eservatian
4) Sharan Savayer talk an Grey Cloud Island history at Grey Cloud
Elern�ntary School (date to be announced)
5) La�al historic sites tour far city council and commi�sians (12 May)
6) Local History Field Day at Park Senior High (14 May)

As part of the "Old Buildings That Make My Communit}► Great" �unior hi�
essay cantest, the Committee direrted staff ta provide school hbraries wit
lacal histary resources, including capies �f research re orts and articles,
histaric d�cuments, maps, and old photographs, The �ommittee also
express�d an interest in obtaining copies af essays submitted by Cattage
Grave area students,
Chairperson Golusky appointed himself and CHPO Vogel as the selection
earr►mittee for the fif th annual P�eservationist of the Year Award, They will
meet as soon as possi�le after the 23 April deadline for nominations,
Chairp�rson Golusky and CHPO Vogel will appear �n "First Tueday," the
local cable public affairs pr�gram, on 4 May to talk about the
Sesquicentennial celebration, Cammittee members were ask�ed to v�lunteer
as production crew merr►bers,
Earth DavtArbor Dav A�tivities at Crestview Sch�l
CHPQ Vogel repvrted that 1VIs, Anna Barker had c�ntact�d him with a
request to include Crestview Elementary School's Earth DaytArbar Day
� a�tivities iri t�e �iry official Sesquicentennial pragram. On Earth Day (22
April), students and parents will participate in a workshap, follvwed by tree
planting on Arbor Day (30 April); Vogel has been invited to attend both
�verits to make brief presentations on the environm�ntal history vf the
Cattage Grove area.
T�t� Cammittee agreed to make the Crestviev� project a part of the
Sesquic�ntennial abs�rvance and directed staff to work with Ms. Bark�er and
Crestview School afficials,
The Committee discussed plans f or a bicyrle tour af histari� sites during
Stra�vberry Fest, Strawberry Fest organiz�ers have been contacted and
CHPO Va�el will attend a planning rneetin� at the VFW Red Barn an
1�ursday 5 April, The event was tentative y scheduled f or Sunday, b June.

Hist�ric Preserv�tion Svmn�sium
The Committee discussed plans to sponsor a sympasium on the future af
histaric preservation, entitled "The Future af Saving the Past; Historic
P�eservation in the Nin�ties and Beyand,' to be held sametime in June or
July, The sympasium would consist of a roundtable discussion by leading
preservationists and would be cablecast on government access �V,

The Committee examined the commemorative pins. 200 pins were reserved
for distribution by �ity officials the other 200 will be off�red for sale at a�ost
af two dollars each,
Th� next rrte�ting af the Ses uicentennial Committee will be Tuesday, 27
April, at 7; 00 P. M, in the city�all conference room,
