I � � , � I I �� �� i il ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON HISTORIC PRESERVATION City of Cottage Grove, Minnesota MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY 8, 2000 CALL TO ORDER Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a meeting of the Advisory Committee on Historic Preservation (ACHP) was held at City Hall, 7516 — 80`" St. So., on the 8' of February, 2000. This was the Committee's Annual Meeting. Chairperson Golusky called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. ROLL CALL The following members were present: Gary Golusky (chair), Keith Kleinsasser, Tina Valek, Herb Japs (Planning Commission representative), Cheryl Kohls (council liaison), and Robert Vogel (City Historic Preservation Officer). MINUTES OF DECEMBER 14, 1999, MEETING The minutes of the December 14, 1999, regular meeting were approved as mailed. CLG GRANT PROJECT CHPO Vogel reported on the progress of the "Ozzie & Harriet Project," a survey of buildings and sites dating from 1941-1972. The project is on schedule and within budget and the final report is expected to be submitted in July. PRESERVATION LEGISLATION Committee members discussed current preservation-related bills before the State Legislature and the Congress. ANNUAL MEETING: ANNUAL REPORT Chairperson Golusky and CHPO Vogel presented oral reports on the major accomplishments and disappointments of 1999. Staff was directed to prepare the 1999 annual report and have it ready for publication in time for Preservation Week. � ANNUAL MEETING: ELECTION OF OFFICERS The election of officers for 2000 was tabled until the next regular mecting. ANNUAL MEETING: GOALS AND OBJECTIVES FOR 2000 The Committee reviewed the annual work plan of the Historic Preservation Division and discussed possible ACHP initiatives. The following general goals and objectives represented the consensus of the Committee: 1. Explore the feasibility of establishing a farm heritage teaching site in south Washington County. 2. Hold at least one regular meeting at the Historic Town Hall. 3. Sponsor a historic hour tour at the time of the Great Grove Get-Together The members agreed to consider adding goals and objectives to the list at their next meeting. ANNUAL MEETING: REGULAR MEETING DATES AND TIMES There was consensus that the ACHP should continue to hold quarterly regular meetings at the call of the chair, with a summer field inspection tour and such special meetings as needed. HISTORICAL INTERPRETATION AT THE CAMEL'S HUMP There was discussion of the Camel's Hump and the possibility of acquiring a scenic overlook there. Council member Kohls requested CHPO Vogel to prepare a report to summarize the cultural resource values of the Camel's Hump and present a conceptual plan for using the overlook for historical interpretation. 2001 BUDGET Council member Kohls asked the Committee and staff to begin working on the 2001 budget for historic preservation. WORLD WIDE WEB The City's web site was discussed. CHPO Vogel reported that many cities with preservation programs are developing web sites as an education and outreach tool. There was consensus that the City needs to include historic preservation in its web site. Chairperson Golusky directed CHPO Vogel to work with staff to develop a historic preservation link.
