Getschel111k J Date: October 16, 2012 Subject: BULLETPROOF VEST PARTNERSHIP (BVP) FUNDING Memo The United States Department of Justice has continued to assist jurisdictions with the purchase of body armor for full time sworn police officers. Requirements for Funding Use of the Federal funds made available by this Act requires that all purchases be made on only American -made equipment and products. The jurisdiction applying also acknowledges that this grant funding is for Federal Preparedness assistance and agrees that it has implemented and complies with the National Incident Management System (NIMS) as required by Homeland Security Presidential Directive 5 (HSPD -5) and has adopted these standards and guidelines. Funding to Date In 2008 the Police Department applied and received $ 9,285.00 for 15 officer vests which qualified for replacement during 2008 — 2010. In 2010, the department again applied and received grant funds for 2010 -2012 in the amount of $ 12,642.22 for 19 anticipated vest purchases. Current Application The current Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant funds being offered are for qualifying officer vests purchased between April 1, 2012 and September 30, 2014. During this grant period, current officers qualify for vest replacement (5+ years old). I submitted an application for funding on June 27, 2012, requesting funds of $ 5,400.00, the equivalent of half the cost of 8 vests. I have received notification that the application was successfully submitted and has received BVP approval. Please present this request for approval of BVP funds to City Council for approval.
