During the fall of 2012, ABM Equipment, Hopkins, MN, {with the Johnston brand of sweeprs}, MacQueen Equipment, Sf. Paui, MN, (with the Elgin brand of sweepers) and Environmental Equipment and Services, Ika, MN, (with fihe Tymco brand of sweepers) were invited to demo their curren# mode( equipment with Streef Department persannef. Addifiionally, Street Department personnl visited with Street Maintenanc staff at the Cities of Eagan and Burnsville to discuss and review their use of both mechanical and regenerative type sweepers usd in fheir street sweeping operations. Street sweeping requirements have changed over the past few years. Beginning wifih the 2011-2012 Win#er Season, straih# salt has been used for ice cantrol resu(ting in 75% Isss produc# to be swept. With the much reduced sand application to city roadways, a different type ofsweeper is better suited for aur current needs. Mechanical sweepers are used for heavy duty sweeping and production. The City currently has a mechanical Elgin Brand sweeper. Reqenerative_{vacuum} sweepers are best suited for the less heavy-duty type of sweeping done currentfy. Because of their vacuum feafure, the regenerative sweepers do a better job of cfeaning th roadways resulting ip less residue gaing into holding ponds. Because of this feature, the South Washinton County Watrshed District is willing to participate in cosfi sharing which is out[ined furfher in this memo. Demos or used sweepers were not available that would meet our needs or requirements. After evaluation of several types of street sweepers with Street Qepar#ment personnel, agreement was reached thafi fihe Tymco Modef 600 Truck-Mounted Regenerative Air Sweepr would best meet our present and future sweeping needs. Also roposed is to keep our present Elgin Sweeper. to ssist with the heavy seasonal spring and fall sweeping schedules.
