Past Projects /Programs
• Held a program over winter break at Peter Thompson Park for kids ages 5 -12 while kids
were out of school. We played skated, spent time on the sledding hill, played games,
and made fun crafts.
• Warming Houses opened on Dec. 28. We staff six park buildings, seven days a week,
which serve as warming houses at our maintained outdoor rinks. Our staff are
responsible for tracking attendance, keeping the buildings clean, making sure skaters
are being safe, and being a good representative of our Department.
• Hosted the annual Youth Hockey Skills Competition at the CG Ice Arena on President's
Day. Youth hockey players tested their skills in 4 competitions; 4 corners shooting, long
range shooting, fastest skater, and superman slide. They were treated to a lunch from
the concession stand after all their hard work.
• Held Popcorn and a Movie during a no- school day in January. Participants came to
Peter Thompson Park for a day of games, movies, and popcorn.
• Completed the fall session of Tot Spot at Pine Tree Valley Park. This program is ten
weeks long and for kids ages 3 -5 years old. We play games, sing songs, make fun
crafts, and play outside while encouraging taking turns, sharing, and making new
friends.
• Held our 5 th annual Skate Night at Highlands Park. The pond at Highlands Park was
cleared for this day and made skatable for this program. Families came out and
enjoyed a bonfire along with hot cider and cookies and a night of skating under the
stars.
