City Hall Xcel Rebate Presentation
As part of the planning toward construction of the City Hall project the City submitted an
application to participate in the Xcel Energy Design Assistance Program on September 1,
2010. The application was made to Account Manager Jennifer Abbott. Xcel approved this
application on October 6, 2010.
The project commenced on February 23, 2011 with assistance from the Weidt Group, which is
a consultant to Xcel, providing analysis of sustainability features. Energy savings strategies
were reviewed by the City Environmental Commission on April 21, 2011. Those strategies
were approved by the City Council on May 4, 2011. The resulting sustainability features were
part of the bid package for the project which was awarded on September 21, 2011. The
sustainability features were adjudged to increase the project cost by $99,000 or about $48,000
after the Xcel rebate, resulting in a payback of less than two years.
The City was notified of the estimated program rebate on December 6, 2011 pending a post
construction audit. That audit has now been completed.
Xcel Energy representatives will be present at the July 17, 2013 meeting in order to formally
present the City Council with the rebate check in the amount of $52,590 (which is slightly
larger than originally estimated). Representing Xcel will be their newly appointed Community
Relations and Economic Development Manager Jake Sedlacek along with Jennifer Abbott,
program Account Manager.
Council Action: Accept receipt of the Xcel Design Assistance Check in the amount of $52,590.
