We are writing to express our support for the proposed amendments to Minnesota State Rules governing mercury air emissions published on October 21, 2013. Mercury is a potent neurotoxin that is harmful to the central nervous system. Emissions of inercury have contributed to the impairment of over 1,200 rivers and lake segments in Minnesota and led to fish consumption guidelines. These amendments will reduce the deposition of inercury into Minnesota's lakes and rivers resulting in improved water quality, reduced impacts on fish and other aquatic creatures, and a higher quality of life for the citizens of Cottage Grove and.the State of Minnesota. We appreciate MPCA's regulatory efforts related to reducing emissions of mercury. We look forward to continued MPCA efforts to address environmental issues important to the citizens of Cottage Grove.
