Re: Public Improvements on 80th Street and Hadley Avenue — Closeout
Backqround
The Public Improvements on 80th Street and Hadley Avenue Project involved the removal of
existing City sidewalk, installation of direct bury concrete street lights, new conduit and wiring,
new City sidewalk with a two-foot exposed aggregate ribbon, and curb replacement. This project
was awarded to LPD Electric, Inc. at the June 4, 2014 City Council meeting.
Discussion
During construction, three items were addressed which resulted in a change in project quantities.
The first was an increase of 15 lineal feet in the amount of new sidewalk to be installed. This
increase was a result of wrapping the sidewalk around the two aprons leading into the G-Will
Liquor's site, which connected the City sidewalk to the G-Will Liquor's sidewalk. This resulted in
a total increase of $601.23 for sidewalk and class 5 aggregate.
The second item was the additional replacement of 14 lineal feet of concrete curb along 80th
Street. During construction, settlement was noted in two concrete panels. Because the City
sidewalk was in the process of being removed directly behind the curb, this settled curb was
replaced to prevent any future issues. This resulted in an increase of $588.00
Finally, during construction an additional handhole for the nearby traffic signal was discovered
along the sidewalk. This handhole was adjusted to the proper grade, at an additional cost of
$525.00.
The total increase for the project is $1,714.23. A detailed breakdown of the project quantities
can be seen in the attached spreadsheet.
Recommendation
The Contractor, LPD Electric, Inc. has satisfactorily completed the Work in accordance with the
contract plans and specifications. Therefore, it is recommended that the final payment of
$4,242.00 be made to the Contractor and the project accepted by the City of Cottage Grove.

RESOLUTION APPROVING FINAL PAYMENT IN THE AMOUNT
OF $4,242.00 TO LPD ELECTRIC, INC. FOR THE
PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS ON 80TH STREET AND HADLEY AVENUE

WHEREAS, the original total contract amount was $71,358.35. The final
construction amount is $73,072.58, which is $1,714.23 over the original contract
amount. The total overrun was due to the new sidewalk wrapped around the two
aprons leading into the G-Will Liquor's site connecting the City sidewalk to G-Will
Liquors sidewalk; replacement of 14 lineal feet of concrete curb along 80th Street
due to settling; and adjustment to proper grade of an additional handhole for the
